There's lots to consider when searching for your ideal Masters programme. Here's some helpful advice on making the most of Postgraduate Study Fairs
What are Study Fairs?
The huge range of options on offer for postgraduate study can make choosing a Masters exciting, but challenging. Our course search provides a great way to find, compare and inquire about different postgraduate programmes, but it can also be helpful to meet representatives from universities themselves. One way to do this is by attending a university open day in order to visit a department, meet teaching and research staff and discuss a course with current students. You can look for postgraduate open days and events at FindAMasters.com.

Study fairs, on the other hand, bring together a wide range of institutions at one venue. Specific events vary, but most will feature representatives from several universities prepared to showcase study opportunities and answer questions from prospective students. Some study fairs are very broad, covering a range of subject-areas at multiple levels, whilst others will focus much more closely on particular course types, groups of institutions or academic disciplines.

FindAMasters is proud to be associated with a range of different postgraduate study fairs - take a look to get a sense of the variety of events on offer.

Why should I attend a Study Fair?
As a prospective postgraduate student you'll want to be as informed as possible before you make a decision about further study. Study fairs provide an efficient and convenient means of accessing a range information about universities and their Masters programmes in one place. You'll be able to ask questions about course content, assessment, admissions, research facilities and other topics and get an answer right away from staff who are there specifically to help with your queries.

Of course, a study fair won't usually allow you to see the specific campus you're considering studying at or the facilities you might be using. However, this is balanced by the fact that you'll be able to meet staff (and possibly students) from a number of universities without having to travel to multiple universities in different locations. This makes them especially useful if you are an international student and don't wish to make several expensive foreign trips! A study fair can also be a great way to narrow down your choices before attending open days at specific institutions.
How do I make the most of a Study Fair?
From a student's point of view, postgraduate study fairs are all about accessing a range of information as efficiently and effectively as possible. With this in mind, it makes sense to go prepared.

Make sure you know which universities or departments will be exhibiting and, if a fair runs to a particular timetable, familiarise yourself with it in advance. Some exhibitors may not be present for the entire duration of an event or may run specially scheduled workshops or question and answer sessions at certain points in the programme. Taking advantage of these is recommended, but will require organisation and planning in advance.

Know what you want to get out of the event and be prepared with a list of questions about the universities and courses you are interested in. Fairs can be busy and you'll want to make the most of your time talking to each exhibitor. See our guide to attending study fairs for a list of suggested questions.

You should also be prepared to offer some information about yourself. Staff may need to know about your qualifications and educational background in order to answer some inquiries effectively.
