 | Whatever your background or interests, there's something for you in our huge variety of postgraduate courses from the Department of Biology. The word on the lips of every good biologist in the modern world is ‘interdisciplinary’. It means sharing and developing information with researchers working not only in different fields, but in entirely different schools of thought. This is the approach we take at York. We’re convinced that collaborative work is more than a sum of its parts, so we’ve fostered an environment in our Department of Biology that encourages this way of thinking and working. So if you come from an unconventional academic background, or you don’t plan to take your research with us in a traditional direction, we’re only going to encourage you. | | The Masters programmes are designed to produce the kind of scientists needed to drive forward bioscience research within both academic and industry-based settings. As part of every Masters programme you’re given a three to five-month placement in an industrial or academic workplace, giving you access to business expertise. As a postgraduate student you’ll also have access to the Bioscience Technology Facility, constructed part of the recent £21m investment in biosciences at York. The facility has six core laboratories, and you’ll be given the chance to have proper training and use of each of them. Meet our students | | Marieme “York is a big university in a small city, with a great environment in which to study and socialise. You can always find a quiet place to study, or a society putting on a social event.” Clare “I began my course following a year in employment. I soon found there was little reason to be daunted by the transition to being a postgraduate student - the training and support at York is excellent.” Samik “The academic staff are friendly and approachable … I got on really well with my supervisors, as well as other lecturers, researchers and students.” |
